RoboCop Adds Jackie Earle Haley

Jackie Earle Haley joins the cast of RoboCop

Jackie Earle Haley has joined the growing cast of RoboCop for MGM and director José Padilha.

The actor will play Maddox, who gives this crime-fighting cyborg (Joel Kinnaman) military training before RoboCop goes out to clean up the mean streets of Detroit. Actor Jay Baruchel is reportedly circling one of the final lead roles, although no specific character details were given. The cast also includes Gary Oldman, Samuel L. Jackson, Abbie Cornish, and Hugh Laurie. The official synopsis that was released last week at Comic-Con reveals this reboot is set in the year 2029.

José Padilha is directing from a screenplay written by Joshua Zetumer. Production is scheduled to begin later this summer in Toronto.

Jackie Earle Haley was last seen in Dark Shadows, and also stars in Steven Spielberg's Lincoln, opening November 9.

RoboCop comes to theaters August 9th, 2013 and stars Joel Kinnaman, Gary Oldman, Samuel L. Jackson, Abbie Cornish, Hugh Laurie, Jackie Earle Haley. The film is directed by Jos Padilha.
